CU Jiu-Jitsu - What's Behind The Vibe!
Community Beyond the Mats
At CU Jiu-Jitsu, we believe the best part of training isn’t just what happens on the mats — it’s the people you share the journey with. As a husband-and-wife owned gym, our academy has been built around family from the beginning. We’ve always wanted CU Jiu-Jitsu to feel different from the typical gym experience and to fill the need for those seeking their place and their people!

People who grow together
We wanted to create a place where people feel welcomed the moment they walk through the door, where teammates encourage each other, and where friendships grow naturally through shared challenges and victories. Jiu-Jitsu has a unique way of bringing people together as we learn progress isn’t something you achieve alone. It's the teammates who push you, support you, celebrate your wins, and help you through the difficult days too. Over time, those relationships become much more than training partnerships.

Find your people
Our members find the academy to be their place outside of work and home. What starts as a class often becomes where people want to spend time together, and often this carries over outside the academy as well.
Supporting each other at competitions, grabbing dinner after training, celebrating milestones, and showing up for one another in everyday life.
Parents become friends. Kids grow up together. New members quickly realize they’re joining more than a gym; they’re joining a community. That sense of belonging is what makes CU Jiu-Jitsu special to us.

The place you want to be
We’re proud of the culture that’s been built here in Champaign-Urbana — one rooted in respect, encouragement, and genuine connection.
Whether your goal is competition, self-defense, fitness, or simply finding a positive environment to grow in, we want this to be a place where you feel supported both on and off the mats. Because at the end of the day, the most important thing we build here isn’t technique — it’s community.
